Spring Turkey: What is your weapon of choice?

23 March 2010 2 Comments

turkey-hunting-california-1With Spring turkey season lurking just 4 days away what is your choice of weapon when heading out after big California Gobblers? Are you hunting them with your shotgun, or are you looking to drop the sting on a wary old tom with your bow? Here at Relentless we prefer to hunt with our bows out of double bull blinds, but we are not afraid to pull out the trusty 12 ga. and bag a bird or two with the gun as well. What is your preference?

After a recent move to California, I’ll use what worked on dispatching a few birds back east…..a Remington 870 Special Purpose in 12 gauge with a 23″ barrel and extra full choke. She patterns 3″, #4 magnums well out to over 40 yards using the standard bead sight. I have to admit that I’ve got my eye on a Benelli M4 but that’s another story.

My weapon of choice on wary So Cal goblers is my reflex charger and a ground max blind set up and waiting for the morning fly down , cant beat it. And with record numbers of birds in our area we cant wait .
