As my husband, Eric and I sat staring at the huge 7 X 7 Tule elk in the middle of a pasture with majestic Mt. Whitney in the background, I couldn’t help but reflect on how a self-ascribed, blonde to the bone, girly girl ever got herself in this predicament.

The odometer might have only read 157 miles, but this journey actually took 35 years to complete. Little did I know the end would be in my sights, literally! After decades of trying to draw a Tule Elk tag, at the age of 60, my luck had finally took a turn. I was lucky enough to draw one of the four elk tags for my unit in 2008 and even luckier at that to draw one of the two bull tags!
